Hi , this is meteorologist Steve Pelletieri and I am the weatherman . Thanks for checking into weathermanpodcom on your Wednesday , 17th day of the month of July and the heat has really been cranked up around the mid-Atlantic states Eastern seaboard , basically temperatures well above normal . Highs today will range from about 95 to 100 from DC up to the Boston area , probably closer to 95 , 93 in the Boston area . But showers and thunderstorms are likely . We have two systems moving through . The first one could give us an afternoon thunderstorm but more likely with a second frontal system this evening , some locally severe showers and thunderstorms from DC to Boston and including New York City and Philadelphia where high temperatures today go into the 95 to 100 degree range . Heat index values up to 106 . Those showers and thunderstorms could give us some locally severe weather , strong gusty winds and heavy downpours . The temperature is overnight 71 . Then on Thursday might be a leftover shower , but I think for the most part just dry , becoming partly to mostly sunny Mid 80s , only Mid 80s . Friday and both Saturday and Sunday are looking nice . Big area high pressure now working its way down through the Dakotas and into Minnesota . We'll be arriving in the east later on Thursday , in through the weekend and , as a matter of fact right in through about the middle portion of next week .

For if you're flying about on this Wednesday up along the eastern seaboard , early going not bad , but afternoon and evening there'll be some heavy thunderstorms that will cause delays in the New York area airports Philadelphia , dc and Baltimore as well , probably a little bit later up in the Boston area , also looking at scattered showers and thunderstorms . In Atlanta not much . Down around central and south Florida , most of it just off to the Keys and maybe just to the east of Naples and also around the Fort Myers area , but probably further offshore Elsewhere . Looking dry at Houston but maybe some thunderstorms after more heat in the Dallas-Fort Worth area , a four-quarter still getting the monsoons they're typical for this time of year . Dry weather in Chicago and Minneapolis-St Paul Great weather if you're flying into there and west coast also looking dry but warm from San Diego all the way up to Portland and Seattle .

Once again , it looks like some heavy thunderstorms in the latter afternoon and evening hours in the New York area Northeast corridor that will cause some delays if you're flying into the area or out a little bit later on today .
