Weather Forecasts and Travel Tips for a Dry October Weekend

Stephen Pellettiere

Will the northeastern U.S. finally see some relief from the dry October weather? Join meteorologist Steve Pelletier as he explores the shifting weather dynamics and forecasts that could affect your weekend plans and Halloween festivities. With high pressure dominating the landscape, find out why Saturday's approaching frontal system might bring only a few light showers, keeping most of the northeast corridor in the clear. However, keep an eye on the Gulf, as extended models hint at a potential low-pressure system forming, which could shake things up along the eastern seaboard by early November.

As we navigate this week's weather, I'll take you on a virtual tour of the conditions across major cities, offering travel tips for those planning trips near and far. While cities like Atlanta and Chicago enjoy clear skies, the Pacific Northwest braces for rain and turbulence. I'll also prepare you for possible disruptions if you're headed to Hawaii, Japan, or Asia. Meanwhile, enjoy a sunny Friday in the northeast with temperatures touching the 60s, but be ready for a cool-down by Sunday. With Halloween promising to be dry and mild, it's the perfect weather for all your spooky plans. Stay tuned, and I'll be back with more updates on Saturday!

Hi, this is meteorologist Steve Pelletier. I am the weatherman. Thanks for checking into theweathermanpodcom on your Friday, 25th day of the month of October 2024. And this month is quickly coming to an end and it's been dry so far this month across the northeast. But we do see a frontal system approaching. The areas of rainfall associated with that look very, very light. But I was taking a look at some of the extended models, the model gfs. That goes out to some five to ten days and as we get close to the eight, nine and ten day period we see a major area of low pressure forming over the gulf, going across florida and then up along the eastern seaboard. Now its position has been to the east and to the west and it's really about a couple of weeks away. So at this point just something to consider something's going to be forming in the gulf and the south May affect the eastern seaboard sometime in early November, but it does look dry up until that time.

We do have a frontal system moving through. Early portion of Saturday there may be a few showers like that as that front moves through, then high pressures building down with near normal temperature conditions expected for our area in the northeast for later Saturday, sunday and early next week, monday and Tuesday as well. Another series of fronts will probably move through around the middle portion of next week. It might give us a shower as we get close to the end of the month, but Halloween Thursday at this point is looking dry and on the mild side, with temperatures in the 70s and dry conditions. Across the northeast Pacific Northwest we see these series of low-pressure systems and frontal system allusion to those that will be moving into the Pacific Northwest causing rain and also turbulence aloft. If you're heading out to Hawaii or out to Japan and Asia, the weather situation will cause some turbulence there and our pilots will most likely be checking for the best altitude and routing so that that is the smoothest type of transition through those places Elsewhere.

If you're traveling on this Friday, it looks pretty good down in Atlanta and Charlotte. No problems there. Newark Liberty at JFK, laguardia and Philadelphia and Baltimore all looking pretty good but no major problems weather-wise coming our way. Also good weather in Chicago and Minneapolis-St Paul. St Louis is looking good. Might be some late-day thunderstorms in Dallas-Fort Worth, but dry and warm in Houston. Fair skies in San Diego, la and San Francisco but, as mentioned, looks like rainy weather in Portland and Seattle later on Friday and Friday night.

Weather situation for the northeast corridor is looking pretty good. As mentioned, it's going to be a sunny day with our high temperatures ranging into the 60 to 65 degree range. That front moves through. Maybe some clouds on Friday night. Early Saturday maybe a sprinkler shower, but nothing much. High pressure builds in behind it. Fair skies in the 60s on Saturday, but looks like Sunday temperatures will be cooler, holding into the 50s and 50s to lower 60s for Monday and Tuesday of next week, and the dry weather that started in early September looks like it'll at least continue into the first couple of days of November. We'll have more to say on that as we're heading through the weekend. In the meantime, have yourself a great Friday. Talk to your first thing on Saturday. Take care.
