Speaker 1:

Hi, this is meteorologist Steve Pelletier and I am the Weatherman. Thanks for checking in to theweathermanpodcom on your Monday. It's the 28th day of October already 2024, and it's the last several days of October. We're going to be gradually warming, but we did have widespread frost in many communities across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast during the morning hours on this Monday. But as the day wears on, it's a strong southerly flow. The area of high pressure is building offshore. There's a warm front that extends from central Canada all the way down through the northern Great Lakes, then extending into New York State, and that warm front will move through and we're going to feel it as the week continues. High pressure will be the main feature along the eastern half of the nation and it looks like temperatures will reach all the way up to near 80 by the last day of this month, on Thursday. So trick-or-treaters will probably have a fair but mild day around the region, as this high pressure will be anchored just offshore. As we get closer to the weekend, areas of rain that are moving into the west coast, extending from a good portion of California all the way up through Oregon and into Washington State, will continue to drift gradually eastward and eventually an area of low pressure may form around the Gulf and head towards the northeast, with the next cold front due to arrive here sometime, either later Friday or early Saturday, as we head into the first weekend of November and return to eastern standard time this upcoming weekend. But until that point it's going to be dry and it's record dry conditions for the northeast corridor for the remainder of October. In many places only trace amounts of rainfall, as I mentioned, and it's been a very, very dry month and, as we mentioned yesterday's report, it does mean something for the winter. Three-quarters of the time we had a more active winter after having dry conditions in September and October over the last 150 years. Weather for the northeast corridor well, it's looking pretty good Sunshine today, 60 to 65. At night it'll be fair but not as chilly, only down into the upper 30s and lower 40s, and our weather on Tuesday even warmer 65 to 70. Into 70s on Wednesday, about 75 to 80. A good possibility for Thursday, halloween Thursday of this week, on the last day of the month, open up November with fair mild conditions, but a strong frontal system will be moving through and that will give us the possibility of some much-needed rain, maybe sometime later Friday or early portion of the weekend, but still a little question on that at this point.
