Navigating Holiday Weather: How December's Patterns Impact Your Travel Plans
Hi, this is meteorologist Steve Pelletier and I'm the weatherman. Thanks for checking into theweathermanpodcom on your Sunday. It is the 22nd day of the month of December and high pressure is building into the region. After a little snowstorm across the mid-Atlantic and northeastern states, looks like we've got cold weather coming up for today. Highs will only range into the middle 20s in New York City and even in DC up to the Boston area. Not much of a difference from there. That high pressure cell is located right over central New York State. It's fair weather but very cold. Influence extends from southern Canada all the way down into the Carolinas, westward, right into the central Mississippi River Valley. But there's a warming trend coming there as well, but that will probably reach the northeast until sometime later on Tuesday. In the meantime, areas of snow across the central Great Lakes, northern portion of Minnesota and also across the Dakotas and on the west coast. Big area low pressure working its way into the Pacific Northwest and Washington, oregon and northern California. Looks like rainy conditions for today for Seattle, portland and even into San Francisco. A lot of fog down in the LA Basin and looking at generally dry weather down in San Diego. But if you're flying on this Sunday it looks like good conditions in and out of New York, which is very cold, no problems up in the Boston area, dc looking fine, as is Baltimore, charlotte, dry and good weather there. Good weather in Atlanta, central and southern Florida, especially on the west coast from. Good weather there. Good weather in Atlanta, central and southern Florida, especially on the west coast, from Tampa down to Miami, no problems, maybe some showers around Cocoa Beach down to about West Palm and then Texas looking dry, both Houston, san Antonio and actually up in Dallas. No problems there. As mentioned, in the west coast it does look good weather, but a little cloud cover and some fog in the LA area and also San Diego, dry, but looks like rainy conditions, possible IFR weather in San Francisco, also in Portland, and also some pretty heavy weather up in the Seattle area as well as some delays going into there, possibly of about an hour or two, maybe even more, depending upon the weather situation in the Pacific Northwest.
Speaker 0:Weather for the Northeast Carter for your Sunday, a sunny day highs only, as mentioned, mid to upper 20s and at night it's going to be clear single digits in many spots this month of December in the mid-Atlantic and Northeast is going to be below normal temperature-wise, above normal rainfall, precipitation-wise and just a little bit below normal on snowfall. But it was the first time we've had snow in the New York City area since 2021. So it looks like a little bit of a different type of winter pattern that we're in there right now. So it does look like dry conditions for Monday after that chilly start with temperatures only in a single digit Central Park down to about 9, 10 degrees. But on looking at Tuesday as warming up, actually on Monday it'll be warming up going up to around 30 to 10 degrees. But on looking at Tuesday as warming up, actually on Monday it will be warming up Going up to around 30 to 35 degrees and then on Tuesday could be some rain and some snow showers on Christmas Eve, christmas Day at this point looking generally fair With temperatures at normal levels. That means the mid to upper 30s.
