Holiday Weather Forecast: Christmas Eve Travels and a Snowy Surprise in the Northeast
Hi, this is meteorologist Steve Pelletier and I'm the weatherman. Thanks for checking into theweathermanpodcom. On this 24th day of December, christmas Eve, and it looks like for the daytime the weather is going to be okay in northern Georgia. So Atlanta fine. Good weather in Charlotte. Also central and south Florida no problems weather-wise there.
Speaker 1:Houston's going to have some showers so there could be some delays getting into Dallas-Fort Worth as well. An area of low pressure just across Texarkana and then in the northern portion and eastern section of Texas into Arkansas. There's some hefty rains and that could cause a few delays there. Whole West Coast under a big area of low pressure and it's causing rain from San Diego up to LA. San Francisco on a light side, but heavier rains up in Portland and in the Seattle-Tacoma area for this low pressure, current latest system moving in from the Pacific Northwest. That will eventually affect the eastern seaboard, but not for a while. As a matter of fact, it looks like some light snow and snow showers in the New York area A white Christmas there finally this year and similar situations for Philadelphia.
Speaker 1:It's going to be on the cold side, a little bit of melting, but there will be some residual for the evening hours in the Boston area Also having cold weather and the possibility of some snow showers, so no problems there. Weather for the northeast corner on this Christmas Eve day calls for that chance of snow showers coating to an inch generally and then clearing in the afternoon. Highs 35 to 40, pretty normal for this time of year. So far this month of December is about two degrees below normal temperaturewise. We have normal amounts of precipitation in the northeast quarter and it looks like just a little bit below normal. Below normal by at least about 4 or 5 inches of snowfall, but it is more than we've had for the last three years.
Speaker 1:And looking ahead towards Christmas Day, sunshine, highs in the middle to upper 30s, nice weather, near 40 on Thursday and near 40 on Friday. All fair and dry into Saturday. The low pressure that's going to give an eastern seaboard rain will probably be arriving on Sunday and Monday of next week. I'm your host, steve Pelletier, and I am the weatherman. Hope you have a great day and Merry Christmas, a happy Hanukkah, hope everybody has a good holiday and just take care of yourself and enjoy. I will be updating on Christmas morning, so check in again on Wednesday morning. We'll have the latest weather for the next several days. Take care.
