Weekend Weather Insights: Navigating Cold Waves and Warm Fronts with Meteorologist Steve Pellettiere
Hi, this is meteorologist Steve Pelletier and I'm the weatherman.
Speaker 0:Thanks for checking in to theweathermanpodcom on your Friday. It is the 24th day in the month of January 2025. And the month that has been showing temperatures across the mid-Atlantic and the Northeast about 5 degrees below normal. That trend most likely will continue. We are going to have some milder conditions as we head into the weekend. However, it looks like temperatures will be at or slightly below normal as we head through the remainder of this month.
Speaker 0:Here's a look at the weather situation for your Friday Big area high pressure centered right over Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, western New York State and southern portions of Ontario and Quebec Province, extending all the way down into the Tennessee Valley. So that means high pressure building in With a little area of low pressure that's moving just offshore. It gave us some cloud cover in a few areas of snow showers in New York and Pennsylvania during the overnight hours, but that's now drying out and moving further offshore. We do see areas of snow across Wisconsin, in central and northern portions of Minnesota, also snowy conditions across Wyoming, western Nebraska, in North Dakota and also a good portion of Montana, especially in the Rocky Mountains to the west. Looking at scattered snow showers all across Idaho and sections of Utah and the Sierra Nevada as well. Area low pressure unfortunately across northern California is going to be settling down to the southeast and that will bring it just in a position that could increase the sand and winds in central and southern California. I know they're battling a lot of wildfires in the LA area and Ventura County and it looks like that wind is going to be increasing as we head to the weekend. So hopefully they'll be getting a good control of those fires there, but the wind are going to be a problem this weekend. It does look dry in San Francisco, also dry in Portland and up in the Seattle area as well.
Speaker 0:Weather for the Northeast corridor, that is, from DC up to the Boston area, including central and northern New Jersey, where we're located, and New York City and Philly. We're looking at a mostly sunny day for today as our high temperatures reach the upper 20s and lower 30s. Clear at night down to about 10 to 15, then partial sunshine for Saturday, also in the upper 20s lower 30s. As we head towards Sunday there'll be some extra clouds, a little warm front poking through and temperatures will get up to near 40. In New York City I'm looking at temperatures between 40 and 45 on Monday, with a partly to mostly sunny day If you're flying, doesn't look like any major problems in the area airports Boston, new York, washington, baltimore, even down at Charlotte, atlanta and South Florida all looking pretty good, as they also do in Texas, both Houston and Dallas.
Speaker 0:No problems there. There will be some snow showers moving into Chicago. Of course that snowy weather in Minneapolis, st Paul, could slow things down there, but it is dry conditions on the West Coast. No major problems expected there. I'm meteorologist Steve Pelletier and I am the weatherman. Hope you have a great day today.
