Weather Shifts: Relief and Challenges as Rain Comes to the West and a New Storm Approaches the East
Hi, this is meteorologist Steve Pelletieri and I am the weatherman. Thanks for checking in to theweathermanpodcom on your Monday. It is the 27th day of the month of January 2025. And finally, some rain on the west coast. We've been talking about that rain moving into Ventura and Los Angeles counties, and even Orange counties, and down to as far south as San Diego and northern Baja. Well, that area of rain is causing snow across central and northern Nevada and also into southwestern Utah and into northern portions of Arizona around the Grand Canyon and also heading towards the Phoenix area. It will be drying out by the time it reaches there, but much-needed rainfall in the southwestern portion of the nation, including southern California, where they need it fighting all those wildfires. It looks like the total rain will be somewhere between one and two inches, depending upon where you are. That low pressure system does, however, go into the Four Corners region. It sets up an easterly flow by northeast flow across Southern California. Of course it starts up the Santa Ana winds, but thankfully for that rainfall, maybe the situation will be a little bit better there.
Speaker 0:Elsewhere across the nation we see an area of low pressure that's working its way towards the Carolinas. It'll bring rain to those places that got snow one week ago around this time and that area continues to warm up nicely. Big area of high pressure across central and northern Texas and into the central plains states and some colder air moving down causing snow across North Dakota, northern sections of Minnesota and in Wisconsin and the UP of Michigan. That's going to continue to give generally dry weather to the northeast. So our forecast for the northeast corridor calling for generally fair skies on Monday with temperatures generally ranging from about the upper 30s and lower 40s. So a little bit of a more normal weather pattern temperature-wise than that very cold weather that we've had over the last 10 days.
Speaker 0:Now it does look like there is going to be some rain or snow showers on Tuesday in another area of low pressure expected to form over Texas. We'll advance northeastbound and that will probably bring us some mixed precipitation later on in the week. But most of the week at this point doesn't look too bad. It doesn't look too bad Near normal temperatures, possibility of some rain and snow showers midweek and that possibility of a storm bringing rain and maybe some icy mix to the northeast sometime by later Friday and Saturday of this week. But your Monday and Tuesday are looking pretty good, I'm meteorologist Steve Pelletier and I am the weatherman. Hope you have a great day today. Talk to you first thing tomorrow. Take care.
