Weather Wonders: Weekend Forecasts and Groundhog Day Predictions with Meteorologist Steve Pellettiere
Hi, this is meteorologist Steve Pelletier and I'm the weatherman. Thanks for checking in to theweathermanpondcom on your Tuesday. It's the 28th day of January, a month that has shown us quite a bit of wild weather all across the nation. From the heavy rains that we've seen in Southern California over the last couple of days, it's now moved across the Four Corners region, causing snow in sections of northern Arizona, southern Utah, the southwestern corner of Colorado and about northwestern sections of New Mexico. It's all going to advance and develop into a low-pressure system over Texas, probably with some rain. In the meantime, a constant flow of northwest winds moving down out of central and western Canada, coming right down the central plains, moving across the Great Lakes, will cause a cold front to move through the mid-Atlantic and northeastern states and possibly with some rain and snow showers Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. It's a constant supply coming down out of the northwest, but then as we head towards the weekend it looks like a milder flow and another area of low pressure forming along the Gulf will advance towards the northeast and probably will bring rain by Friday, Saturday and even into early Sunday to the mid-Atlantic and northeast. So here's a forecast for the northeast corner that's from DC up to the Boston area, centered right in central and northern New Jersey, where we are in New York City and Philadelphia.
Speaker 0:Our weather situation for your Tuesday, calling for a mix of clouds and sun, Could be some snow showers or flurries. Temperatures for the day only in the middle 30s, Northwest winds at 10 to 15. At night still the possibility of some snow showers. Otherwise mostly cloudy and cold, 24 to 29 degrees in New York City Daytime on Wednesday look for the chance of some rain or snow showers. High temperatures for the day will range between 40 and 45, so you can see it's a little bit warmer, but that's short-lived, Partly cloudy. At night down near 20 to 25. Then on Thursday sunshine, middle 30s. Friday looks like rain moves in and that rain will be with us on Friday night.
Speaker 0:Saturday could be a little period of mixed precipitation sometime Friday night and early Saturday for the northeast, but basically north of New York City as we head elsewhere, it looks like we'll get back into more normal temperatures. That means highs near 40, nighttime lows in the upper 20s. That will be occurring later on this upcoming weekend, early February and the beginning of next week. So Groundhog's Day coming up on this Sunday, the second day of February, and it looks like at that point there will be some rain or snow showers, otherwise just partial sunshine and temperatures near normal for this time of year. Will the groundhog see its shadow, who knows? Every time when it's sunny there, he doesn't see it. When it's cloudy and rainy or snowy, he tends to do so. With that in mind, anything can go. I'm meteorologist, Steve Pelletier, and I am the weatherman. Hope you have a great day today. Talk to you first thing on Wednesday. Take care.
