Preparing for the Weekend Storm: Weather Impacts from D.C. to Boston
Hi, this is meteorologist Steve Pelletieri, and thanks for checking in to theweathermanpodcom on your Thursday. It's the 30th day of January 2025, a month that's been colder than normal in the Northeast and actually along most of the eastern seaboard, and actually a little bit drier, but we are going to get a little bit of rainfall. That rainfall, arriving courtesy of an area of low pressure, has been forming over Texas and over the Gulf Coast, advancing towards the Northeast, and will bring us rainy weather from DC up to the Boston area. May start as a little bit of ice in the pre-dawn hours on Friday, but then over to rainy weather. It looks like that rain will continue on and off throughout Friday and Friday evening, and then a clearing trend for Saturday. A little bit of cloud cover for Groundhog's Day on Sunday. In the meantime, though, for the northeast corner, highs today will range between 35 and 42 degrees At night, with an increase in clouds, nighttime lows from 28 to 32. And freezing rain could start, especially into central and eastern PA and central and northern New Jersey interior sections sometime before daybreak on Friday. But as the temperatures warm at the surface, it'll be going up to about 45, 40 to 45 during the afternoon hours, and that means it'll go over to a period of rain, but it could be an icy start to the day in many communities across the northeast, away from the city areas, and that'll be for a while, up until about mid-morning on Friday and then Friday afternoon temperatures will get up above the freezing mark. The rain will end on Friday night and then we get into mostly fair skies for Saturday, back to an increase in clouds for Groundhog's Day on Sunday.
Speaker 1:If you're traveling on this Thursday, it looks like good weather into the New York area today. Tomorrow it will be IFR and rain, so there will be some light to moderate delays Up in the DC area. It looks like they'll also have dry conditions today, but rainy weather tonight and tomorrow, as will Boston and down in Atlanta overcast and wet weather. With this storm moving in We'll see IFR conditions into Charlotte with light delays expected there as well. Central and South Florida are looking dry, gulf Coast showing some showers and thunderstorms around Houston that could cause some delays into there.
Speaker 1:Rainy weather into Chicago and looks like the rain will continue for a good balance of the evening and overnight and on Friday as well, before the storm moves offshore. Now on the west coast, dry from San Diego up to LA, but looks like some rain will be moving into San Diego and San Francisco and also up in Portland and the Seattle area by late on Thursday and into early Friday. I'm meteorologist, steve Pelletier, and I am the weatherman. I hope you have a great day today. Talk to you first thing on Friday. Take care.
