Bracing for Cold: February's Weather Surprises and Travel Updates with Meteorologist Steve Pellettiere
Hi, this is meteorologist Steve Pelletieri and I am the weatherman. Thanks for checking into theweathermanpodcom on your Tuesday, 18th day of the month of February, and temperatures across the mid-Atlantic and northeast have been below normal by a good seven degrees. So far this month it has been cold. It will continue to be cold this upcoming week and we're watching for the possibility of a storm up along the eastern seaboard. Looks like it might stay south of the New York City area but could possibly affect the Washington DC and Delmarva South Jersey region with some snow. That would probably be during the daytime on Thursday. Then we get into a clearing trend for Friday and this upcoming weekend.
Speaker 0:If you are flying on this Tuesday, it looks like fair weather. Still gusty northwest winds are actually causing some delays and of course you know what happened in Toronto. There that's because of those strong winds. We'll have to see and wait and see what just basically happened there. But in the meantime that's why it causes between two and three-hour delays. When you have these strong winds, yes, you're supposed to be able to land and stuff like that. But you know, when you have crosswinds or the winds are just not favorable for a particular runway, it causes a very, very tough landing situation, so let's just keep that in mind. The winds will gradually subside.
Speaker 0:Plenty of sunshine and dry weather. No problems aviation-wise as far as the weather is concerned, except for the wind in the New York LaGuardia, jfk area and then down in Philadelphia and Baltimore the winds will be lighter. No problems weather-wise. There Also dry conditions in Charlotte. Dry in Atlanta, central and South Florida, basically looking okay. There's a few areas of showers just off of West Palm, down to Miami, out in Texas it looks like the Gulf Coast around Houston and up towards Dallas-Fort Worth. There will be some heavy weather there and snowy conditions working their way out of Wyoming, out of South Dakota, kansas, nebraska, all the way into central and northern portions of Missouri. And then that storm is going to intensify along the eastern seaboard and head northeast, possibly on Thursday affecting the eastern seaboard. But no problems for Chicago weather-wise for today. Or Minneapolis-St Paul, it is dry. Also looking at dry weather in LA and San Francisco, but back to rainy conditions. Portland and Seattle.
Speaker 0:Sunny skies for New York City on this Tuesday. Our high temperatures ranging close to 30, but wind chills into single digits at night. Clear down into the teens to near 20. Plenty of sunshine tomorrow, high temperatures again ranging back up to 30, but with less wind, that chance of some snow on Thursday, then clearing on Friday into the weekend. I'm Indy Roger, steve Pelletier and I am the weatherman. Hope you have a great day today. Hold on to your hats. Looks like we'll get less wind but still on the cold side Most Tuesday and Wednesday here in the east. Have a great day.
