Spring Arrives: March 2025 Climate Update and Travel Forecast WITH STEVE PELLETTIERE
Hi, this is meteorologist Steve Pelletier and I'm the weatherman. Thanks for checking in to theweathermanpodcom on your Thursday. It's the 20th day of the month of March 2025 and it is official it is the vernal equinox. Springtime astronomically has occurred and although meteorologically the beginning of springtime in the northern hemisphere usually occurs around the first day of March, the sun is rising earlier, it's setting later, it's getting higher in the sky and really making a big difference and so far this March of 2025, especially from the central portion of the nation eastward has been above normal by some 4 to 6 degrees. Temperature-wise, precipitation has been close to normal, but still a little bit below. We do see the possibility of some rainfall in the northeast sometime on this Thursday evening, early Friday and maybe a few showers early on a Sunday morning, with another cold front and then possibly a low pressure giving us some rain early next week. But it doesn't look like a lot of rainfall or any major lows. Some of the longer-term forecasts, the guidance that we look at, shows the possibility of an east coast storm sometime around the 31st to the 2nd of April, 31st of March to the 2nd of April. In the meantime, across the nation, looking at overcast conditions for the northeast corner, with occasional rain and showers. High temperatures near 60. Most of those showers will be tonight into the overnight hours and that's when we'll have nighttime lows down to 38. Should start to clear on Friday. Big area high pressure across the nation's midsection will move into the northeast and that'll give us sunny weather from DC up to the Boston area. That'll be on Friday, but it will be cooler. Temperatures generally ranging to near 50. Warming on Saturday back up to near 60. Cooling back down to near the upper 40s to lower 50s, with some cooler weather on Sunday of this upcoming weekend, first weekend of springtime 2025.
Speaker 0:If you're traveling on this Thursday, we've got overcast and rainy weather, or at least some fog and drizzle, causing a few light delays across the Northeast and New York area airports and some light rain up around the Boston area for later today and tonight. That should slow things down just a bit. Atlanta's looking good. Charlotte maybe some rain showers, but nothing much. Frontal system moving through Central and South Florida, but it's basically dry. There could be a few isolated thunderstorms or some turbulence flying down to maybe West Palm, fort Lauderdale or Miami or even down to Fort Myers, but for the most part it's looking pretty good.
Speaker 0:Good weather in Houston and Dallas. Good dry conditions in Chicago and Minneapolis, st Paul and out in the west coast, dry in LA and San Francisco. Well, wouldn't you know it. Rainy weather in Portland and Seattle, as is typical for this time of year, and it looks like that will continue. Just some light delays up in the Seattle area. They're so used to the rain they take care of it very easily. But it is probably going to be IFR conditions there and that slows things down by maybe an hour or so flying into the Pacific Northwest. I things down by maybe an hour or so flying into the Pacific Northwest. I'm meteorologist Steve Pelletieri. Happy springtime. Hope you have a great day today. Talk to you first thing on Friday. Take care.
