Northeast Storm Watch: Rain, Snow, and Travel Impacts
Hi, this is meteorologist Steve Pelletieri. I am their weatherman and it is Sunday. It's the sixth day in the month of April 2025. A big happy birthday to my brother, joe, and my brother-in-law, joe, and also my Aunt Lucille out there in Palo Alto. So happy birthday to you all. And our weather situation for today. I wish I had better weather.
Speaker 0:In the Northeast, actually, from the Carolinas and even northern sections of Georgia, all the way up in through Pennsylvania and all the way into the southern portion of the Great Lakes, we're looking at a little bit of rainfall. There's even some snow in northern Ohio up around Cleveland, toledo. Also some snow in western New York State and just south of Albany and Rochester, and there's even some icy conditions across west-central Pennsylvania extending up towards Sayre and up there by Elmira Could be some icy conditions from this storm, with a little bit of cold air hitting its way down into the Dakotas. So rainy weather for your Sunday High temperatures only in the 40s to near 50, with that ice in northwestern Pennsylvania, western New York State, and for the evening hours more rain and drizzle, more mixed precipitation farther into the northwest, with overnight low temperatures Only down to the upper 30s and lower 40s. So kind of chilly for this time of year and Monday is looking overcast, with rain in the morning hours, but in the afternoon rain ends. The sky is clear. From west to east, from southwest to northeast, you'll get some better weather in DC first, all heading up towards the new york city area, then eventually into boston, which will probably have a rainy day all day on monday, tuesday, wednesday and thursday all looking fair but cool for this time of year. Normal highs should be around 54 55 daytime highs expected next several days only near 50, possibly warming up towards the end of the week. But towards the end of the week might be an east coast storm that may intensify just off the delmarvo or south jersey coast.
Speaker 0:Elsewhere across the nation we see another area of low pressure working its way into the Pacific Northwest. We'll get to that in just a moment. In the meantime, if you are flying on this Sunday, it is strictly IFR conditions New York, philadelphia, baltimore, even into well, possibly into the Boston area, although just a lot of cloud cover in the east winds. So maybe not as bad there, but possibly some delays if you're heading up towards Albany because of the possibility of some ice. Similar situation in Pittsburgh and Erie and also around Cleveland could be some delays into there because of some mixed precipitation.
Speaker 0:Looks dry in Chicago but looks like the possibility of some rain and snow showers. Minneapolis-st Paul, then a clearing trend with that next high pressure down from Canada. Rain in Atlanta, rain in Charlotte, delays there of about a half hour to an hour and a half. No problems in central and south Florida. Texas is dry. Houston, dallas, fort Worth, amarillo, el Paso looking good, and out on the west coast, dry in San Diego, la, but increasing clouds will bring rainy weather for San Francisco tonight. Looks like rainy weather all day long in Portland and Seattle during the daytime today. I'm your host, steve Pelletier, and I'm the weatherman. Hope you have a great day today. Talk to you first thing on Monday for the new week. Take care.
