Northeast Braces for Scattered Showers and Thunderstorms: Your Weekend Weather Update

Stephen Pellettiere
Speaker 1:

Hi, this is meteorologist Steve Pelletieri and I am the weatherman. Thanks for checking into theweathermanpodcom. On your Saturday, third day the month of May 2025. And it's going to be a day across the Northeast a lot of scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms, more like a mid-June type of weather situation day. Temperatures in many spots will range in the mid to upper 80s and wouldn't be surprised to have some temperatures near 90 degrees today from DC up to at least the New York area. I think the Boston area will stay closer to about 80 degrees, but a little further south, all the way down to Richmond and Raleigh and down to Columbia, south Carolina, you're looking at basically very warm, muggy air that will also improve into some scattered showers and thunderstorms, which could be some locally heavy, especially across the eastern portion of Tennessee and Kentucky, as a stationary front will lie in that area. So for the northeast corridor, look for that hazy and humid day today 82 to 87 generally, with the possibility of an afternoon and evening thunderstorm. There'll be a thunderstorm tonight to 62, upper level low across the area will give us more showers or even a thunderstorm on Sunday, with Sunday's high temperatures a little bit cooler, from 72 to 77, but still above normal Showers and thunderstorms are possible afternoon and evening on Monday. Otherwise clouds and sun, but cooler temperatures only in the mid-60s to near 70 degrees on Monday across the northeast card.

Now if you are flying on this Saturday, stationary front lies from central Maine all the way down and through the Tennessee Valley and then southward right through the Texas Gulf Coast. Along that low-pressure systems are forming along a stationary front. That's north of Kentucky it looks like for the Kentucky Derby today you're going to have in the afternoon and early evening around 6, 7 pm there will be some scattered showers and thunderstorms. Probably the track will be muddy or off but there is going to be some moisture in Louisville during the daytime today.

Speaker 1:

Elsewhere, if you're flying into Atlanta, it looks like showers and thunderstorms could cause some delays there. About an hour delay expected in Charlotte. Central and South Florida looking pretty good, no problems weather-wise there. The Houston area may have some showers but nothing severe at this point. Dallas-fort Worth also just sunny and hot and out on the West Coast some cloud cover from San Diego northward right up through LA and the LA Basin and Santa Monica. Looks like those showers will move east and dry out. Also some drier weather in San Francisco and in the Pacific Northwest, in Portland and Seattle as well. I'm meteorologist, steve Pelletier, and I am the weatherman. Hope you have a great Saturday. Talk to you first thing tomorrow, take care.
