Upper-Level Lows Bring Extended Showers to the Northeast

Hi, this is meteorologist Steve Pelletierian. I am the Weatherman. Thanks for checking into theweathermanpodcom on your Tuesday. It is the 13th day of the month of May 2025. And it looks like up along the eastern seaboard, an area of low pressure that's been doing a slow drift. It actually reflects storms aloft. That's got to do with upper-level low-pressure systems that more or less create storms close to the surface and these systems meander. They do not move very quickly like a regular surface low pressure system, so that means we'll be under clouds.

The possibility of some occasional rain and showers for your wednesday. This is from dc all the way up into the boston area, although, uh, in the boston area most like the rain will probably hold off until the evening hours and during the daytime on wednesday, temperatures, because of east winds, will be in check upper 60s, low to middle 70s, depending on where you are and whether or not you get some breaks in the overcast. These upper-level low-pressure systems will move off the eastern seaboard eventually, but probably not until later Friday or Saturday. So up until that point, expect more showers and even some thunderstorms in the northeast, with temperatures in the 70s. On Thursday and on Friday, if you're flying on this Tuesday, we've got overcast and marginal VFR to IFR conditions, not really low ceilings and visibilities around the New York area, but that will be lower by later in the day and at night. But still because of the congestion and because of some equipment and manpower problems in the northeast aviation section and the FAA there will be delays depending upon the time of day. Of course, earlier in the day airplanes originating from New York or LaGuardia or Atlanta or Charlotte, they'll probably have decent weather. But going into those making those connections, that's where you have all the delays that usually pile up very, very quickly as the day continues.

So in Atlanta there will be rain today. Also rain in Miami, but mostly like afternoon thunderstorms, a good portion of the time not raining there, but when it does rain it rains really heavy in Fort Lauderdale and Miami in this type of situation. Dry conditions in Houston and Dallas and into Oklahoma City and out on the West Coast, that big area, a low pressure system that's started to move into the Pacific Northwest yesterday Now over the central and northern Rockies it looks like dry weather from San Diego to LA to San Francisco. Maybe a few showers, a little extra cloud cover though that's for sure, in Portland and up in the Seattle area, but no major weathermakers in those places expected for today. I'm your manager, steve Pelletier, and I am the weatherman. Hope you have a great day today. Talk to you first thing on Wednesday, take care.
