The Rain Before the Shine
Hi, this is meteorologist Steve Pelletier and I'm the weatherman. Thanks for checking in to theweathermanpodcom On your Friday. It is the 30th day of the month of May, a month that has been quite wet up in the eastern seaboard and more rainy weather is coming for tonight and on Saturday, the last day of the month. But on the first day of June, on Sunday, it looks like the weather is going to really open up nicely. We'll have dry conditions commencing Sunday, probably lasting right up through the middle to the possibly end of this upcoming first week of June. But for these last couple of days of May it does look like wet weather. Now we did have some breaks in the overcast and we'll probably have some decent weather to start from DC up to the New York area. But overcast conditions from New York northward up to the Boston region and it looks like the rain will be moving in from this and between one and two inches of rainfall is a possibility from DC up to the Boston area during the evening hours and during the daytime on Saturday All depends if there are going to be some thunderstorms.
Speaker 0:Those thunderstorms could have some strong gusty winds and heavy downpours, mainly Friday night into early Saturday and then another round later on Saturday as a strong cool front arrives, the leading edge of dry weather that will be arriving on Sunday and lasting through a good balance of this upcoming week. So temperatures on Friday generally ranging into the mid-70s because we are expecting some sunshine, but then the clouds move in later in the day and rain is likely any time after 4 pm up and through the later portion of Saturday. The heaviest rain probably late evening Friday, early Saturday. Another round of some heavier showers during the midday and afternoon on Saturday. This as that frontal system finally moves through. Temperatures on Saturday will range only between 70 and 75, but highs will range 70 to 75, but with sunshine on Monday it could get up into the 80s by the middle portion of this upcoming week.
Speaker 0:If you're flying on this Friday, of course IFR conditions and one to three hour delays in the New York area because of the heavy rains later in the day and at night During the daytime. Just an average amounts of one or one and a half hour delays at Newark because of their ongoing problems there, and probably on time at JFK. Maybe a little delays in the LaGuardia area. Okay at Philadelphia and in the Baltimore area. Looks like a clearing trend for Atlanta, but still some scattered showers and thunderstorms. Central and south Florida, but not a major problem. We do expect some rainy weather in Charlotte and also rainy conditions in the Chicago area, with that next frontal system working its way down from the northern Great Lakes. Fairer conditions in Minneapolis, st Paul, dry in Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth. Also dry conditions for the West Coast this upcoming weekend, at least through Saturday.
Speaker 0:I'm your host, steve Pelletierian. I am the weatherman. Hope you have a great day today. Rainy weather arrives tonight and on Saturday, but some nice weather to start off the new month of June on Sunday. Talk to you first thing on Saturday. Take care.
