Weather Alert: Northeast Braces for Rain

Stephen Pellettiere
Speaker 1:

Hi, this is meteorologist Steve Pelletierian and I'm the Weatherman. Thanks for checking into theweathermanpodcom On your Saturday. It's the last day of the month of May 2025. And the prospects for more wet weather across the Northeast continues as a series of low pressures and frontal systems start to move on through the area. Now. It'll probably take just about all day long for them to get on through. Doesn't mean it's going to be raining all the time, but some showers and thunderstorms are a good possibility for the daytime and evening hours today, and there could be some locally heavy downpours During the overnight hours. Last evening there were some heavier downpours that extended from much of northern Virginia, maryland, into Delmarva and eastern Pennsylvania and also touched into southern New Jersey. A lot of that continues to move away from the region towards the northeast, but a second front and low pressure will be moving on by and that's going to be responsible for the clouds and the rainy weather for today and, with that next front moving through, sometime around between 2 and 5 pm there could be some heavy thunderstorms, after which time we get into a strong clearing trend, and that'll be from Philadelphia down to Baltimore all the. There could be some heavy thunderstorms, after which time we get into a strong clearing trend and that'll be from Philadelphia down to Baltimore, all the way up to New York City and up into the Boston area. It'll probably take all afternoon into the early evening. Then we get into some improving weather, high pressure building down into the Great Lakes. We'll move east, give us great weather for Sunday, monday and Tuesday with near normal temperatures. That means highs Upper 60s on Sunday, lower 70s to about 70 to 75 Monday and Tuesday, and even a little bit warmer as we head towards the middle of the week. Again, this for the northeast corner, dc up to the Boston area centered around New York City.

Speaker 1:

If you are flying on this Saturday, it looks like good weather in Atlanta, especially for the afternoon, but there will be showers and thunderstorms in Charlotte, so maybe some delays there. Of course, because of the problems that Newark is having and, along with the bad weather, they're going to probably have between two and three-hour delays in the Newark area. Also, it's about the same, about one to two hours in LaGuardia, but you have K, probably about an hour or less because, as mentioned, they have all those extra runways where they can manage all the flights moving in and it looks like well even up in Boston, there will be occasional delays because of rainy weather and those thunderstorms that will be moving through, probably keeping flights from arriving or getting into the system, so keeping planes on the ground in places even though the weather would be good, like in Atlanta or over in New Orleans, houston and Dallas-Fort Worth. Chicago also looking pretty good, many flights out of the New York area into the Chicago region and, because of the heavy weather that's going to be in the New York area that could slow things down significantly, doesn't look too bad on the West Coast, looking at dry conditions for the most part in San Francisco, some scattered showers in LA and San Diego. Also some rainy weather moving into the Pacific Northwest but, as mentioned, it looks like Chicago is going to be good. A little bit of rain and some fog up around the Minneapolis-St Paul area because of a stationary front in those vicinities.
