Weather Shifts: East to West
Hi, this is meteorologist Steve Pelletier and I'm the weatherman. Thanks for checking in to theweathermanpodcom on your Friday. It's the 27th day of the month of June, a month that has shown us wet weather in the first half of the eastern seaboard, then very hot conditions over the last several days and now a cool situation. The situation on the weather chart shows an area of low pressure right over the central Great Lakes, right around Sault Ste Marie, the northern portion of Lake Michigan, the joint between Lake Huron and Lake Superior. A frontal system, a cool front, extends from the center of that low down into northern Illinois and just through Iowa. During the afternoon hours, however, a stationary front exists across Lake Huron, across into southern Canada, southern Ontario and then into western New York State, central Pennsylvania and then south of New Jersey and New York, central Pennsylvania and then south of New Jersey and New York. That means an area of low pressure is going to form along that system and keep us in an east flow. That means some cool weather for the mid-Atlantic and northeast. During the daytime today temperatures will hover between 70 and 75. Tomorrow, however, the front moves further to the north and that means temperatures will range into the mid-80s and there's an increased chance of some scattered showers and thunderstorms, especially as that cold front arrives. The cold front does move through Saturday night, so there could be some heavy thunderstorms with that. Then we get into some dry weather for Sunday, a little bit on the warmer side 80s to near 90 and the possibility of a late day thundershower on Monday and Tuesday and a series of fronts will be moving down out of central and southern Canada heading into the mid-Atlantic and northeast and that's probably going to give us some nice weather for this upcoming week where we transition from June to the new month of July and get close to that 4th of July weekend. Looks like the weather situation will turn out nice, with a big area high pressure down from Canada going to give us drier and less humid weather, but still with seasonable temperatures towards the end of this upcoming week.
Speaker 0:If you are traveling today, it looks like we will still have occasional rain and showers in Atlanta and also in Charlotte, in central and south Florida. Showers and thunderstorms just across most of the peninsula, especially during the afternoon hours. Some light rain and showers in Houston, but not a tremendous amount, but it doesn't look like much that will be causing too many delays in the aviations in and out of Houston, but it looks like Dallas-Fort Worth will be dry and also dry weather from the west coast San Diego, la, san Francisco but some rainy conditions. Who would have thought it? Up in the Pacific Northwest, up in Seattle and in Great Lakes, looks like that cold front will be moving through so there could be some delays going into Chicago, but dry weather from Minneapolis, st Paul and, of course, in the New York area. That's where we're going to have occasional cloud cover and some sprinkles and showers.
Speaker 0:Not terrific IFR weather just is going to be a cloud cover that's going to be somewhere between 3 and about 6,000 feet above the ground, on east winds and that usually causes IFR delays into the area airports into the northeast on your Friday. It does look like some better weather for Sunday, but Saturday, if you're going to be traveling, probably some heavy weather in the northeast because of thunderstorms. We'll have more to say on that tomorrow morning. In the meantime, have a great Friday. Talk to you first thing tomorrow, take care.
