Hi, this is meteorologist Steve Pelletier and I am the weatherman. Thanks for checking into theweathermanpodcom on your Sunday. It's the sixth day of the month of July 2025 and Tropical Storm Chantel has formed over the last 24 hours just off the coast of South Carolina and Georgia, continues to drift for the most part towards the east northeast at the moment, but it is going to be turning towards the north at around 8 miles per hour and the maximum sustained winds of about 50 miles per hour may increase just a bit. It's 120 miles to the south-southwest of Wilmington, north Carolina, and the storm will most likely move over land over the next 24 to 36 hours, probably along the coast of South Carolina and North Carolina, and then just become a tropical depression, but with lots of rainfall, so flash flooding concerns from Chantel should increase during the daytime on Sunday as we head towards Monday, though it's just going to be an ex-tropical low-pressure system, probably moving off towards the northeast by the middle portion of the week, as high pressure remains most of its influence and that Bermuda high effect, bumping in that heat and humidity to the eastern seaboard up through Thursday and Friday of this week.

Our weather forecast for the northeast corner calling for sunny skies on Sunday with high temperatures of 90 to 95 degrees in the upper 80s across the Poconos and Catskills and central and northern New York State. However, as you go further south generally in the mid-90s in DC, baltimore and further south in Richmond a little extra cloud cover expected to move in too. It'll be partly cloudy on Sunday night, down to about 72 on Monday. It looks like a mostly cloudy day, still up to about 90. It's a warm, muggy day with a chance of showers and thunderstorms A probability at 50% for the northeast corridor. Tuesday also the chance of showers and thunderstorms as temperatures for the most part go into the lower 90s. We'll have some partial sunshine and a chance of showers and thunderstorms continues from Wednesday, thursday and Friday this week Each day, with at least some partial sunshine on each day for high temperatures this week in the 80s to near 90 degrees.

If you are flying on this Sunday, tropical Storm Chantel will probably move right over Myrtle Beach, just to the south and southwest of Wilmington, north Carolina, during the daytime. That's going to bring some showers and thunderstorms to Charlotte, but nothing major. Also, looking at dry weather in Atlanta, it looks like dry weather in the New York, philadelphia and Baltimore area, although some cloud cover is expected to move into Richmond and Washington from Chantel, it looks like dry conditions up in the Boston area, central and South Florida also, with the possibility of some later afternoon thunderstorms, but basically not too bad. From Fort Myers south, all the way down to Miami, over to Fort Lauderdale and up to West Palm, looks like some afternoon thunderstorms there. Houston's looking dry, but warm, very hot and humid in Dallas-Fort Worth with the possibility of some thunderstorms and also showers and thunderstorms.

In Chicago, dry weather, a little bit cooler in Minneapolis-St Paul and dry conditions over the west coast. So for the most part we're looking at some pretty good weather across the northeast but looks like lots of moisture across coastal areas of North Carolina, south Carolina and Georgia. All this from Tropical Storm Chantel that probably will become Tropical Depression over the next 36 to 48 hours. We'll check it out as far as the tropical storm is concerned on Monday morning. Until then, hope you have a great Sunday. Talk to you first thing tomorrow, take care.
