Flood Watches and Travel Impacts: Your Complete Tuesday Forecast
Hi, this is meteorologist Steve Pelletier and I am the weatherman. Thanks for checking in to theweathermanpodcom on your Tuesday, eighth day of the month of July 2025. Across the northeast remnants of the tropical storm, then, tropical depression continues to slowly drift offshore, caused a lot of thunderstorms during the daytime on Monday and there were some places where up to three inches of rain fell in about a half hour period of time. Other places just about a quarter of an inch. So that's the way it is with thunderstorms you can have one standing or slow moving thunderstorm. In one particular area you have tremendous amounts of rainfall and then areas really close by to the west or east, most likely you just got lighter amounts. That's why flood watches are going to be in effect for the daytime on Tuesday and on Wednesday as well. There's both days still in a little bit of a tropical situation and the possibility of some afternoon and evening thunderstorms.
Speaker 0:The probability of thunderstorms during the daylight hours on Tuesday from DC up to the Boston area most likely at around 30 percent, as high temperatures range between 90 and 95,. It's going to be easy, easy, hot and humid throughout the day, with that chance of late day thunderstorms. A 60 percent probability of thunderstorms for tuesday night, with nighttime low temperatures down to 70 to 75 and back to partial sunshine. Warm, muggy weather on wednesday, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs will reach close to 90 on wednesday. By thursday more showers and thunderstorms are likely, as high temperatures only get up to about 80 to 85. Then by Friday it looks like our weather situation will stay mostly cloudy, but also cooler still, with a chance of some showers and highs near 80. An above-normal probability of rainfall most likely right up through this weekend and into early next week, the heaviest of which will be both today and on Wednesday, where in many places a better than an inch to two inches of rainfall is a possibility when some of those standing thunderstorms do in fact occur. Flood watches will most likely remain in effect Tuesday and Wednesday for various areas across the Northeast.
Speaker 0:If you're traveling on this Tuesday, it looks like we will have generally dry conditions across Charlotte and into Atlanta. However, there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms in the latter afternoon and early evening hours in areas very close by, like the Tennessee Valley, kentucky, tennessee and even northern portions of Mississippi and Alabama, central and south Florida. Upper level trough just about over the region will cause more numerous showers and thunderstorms, so that will be a problem for traveling into Miami, fort Lauderdale or West Palm during the daytime today. Houston also with some locally heavy thunderstorms, as will be Dallas. Fort Worth looks like San Antonio and the Austin area to the west in the hill country will be dry. So of course, looking at weather situation, they're gradually drying out after those tremendous and deadly rains that they had over this past holiday weekend. West Coast still looking pretty dry. In San Diego, los Angeles and San Francisco, some rainy weather moving into Seattle, tacoma, especially later in the day on Tuesday and Wednesday. Oh and right in Chicago, still the possibility of some thunderstorms, as will be thunderstorms in the New York area. So there could be some delays in and out of there. Look for one to three-hour delays possible. Minneapolis-st Paul looks like it will be on the dry side.
