Weather Watch
Hi, this is meteorologist Steve Pelletier and I'm the weatherman. Thanks for checking in to theweathermanpodcom on your Thursday, seventh day of the month of August 2025, one weekend already. And well, it looks like some dry weather across the Northeast. We did have a few light sprinkles and showers. They extended from just over central Maryland, northern Virginia and even into central and southern New Jersey, for the most part in the morning and then another round during the evening hours, and it looks like those showers will be moving on through the little upper-level troughs swinging on by the area. So we're expecting sunshine but also temperatures in the lower 80s. Similar weather pattern for Friday It'll be mostly fair skies at night down to the 60s. Daytime highs about 80 to 85 expected for Friday.
Speaker 0:Now it's into the weekend that the system of high pressure starts to move offshore and we get into the more hazy, hot and humid weather. It'll start on Saturday. Actually, temperatures will be in the middle 80s and we're expecting fair conditions. But then by Sunday, monday, tuesday, right up through Wednesday, highs will be ranging between 90 and 95. Nighttime lows generally in the 60s to the lower 70s and we're going to get into those dog days of summer as we continue through at least the second week of the month of August, with above normal temperatures, and it does look basically dry for the next several days.
Speaker 0:Now, if you are traveling today, of course there's a lot of delays because of United Airlines shutting down or actually canceling a lot of flights because of computer problems with their main systems for the aircraft weight and measures. You really have to make sure that all things are proper when a large aircraft has to have the weight distributed properly and the computers that figured that all out kind of went down and they had to redo everything. Got it going later on, but after that there's a lot of cancellations and a lot of delays. So that's the kind of thing that you're looking at for United Airlines during the daytime today, on Wednesday, but on Thursday hopefully things will be better, but it probably takes a few days for these things to really straighten out.
Speaker 0:Weather-wise, no major problems in Atlanta. That's the number one destination for a lot of airlines and of course the hub for Delta, one of the largest airlines in the country and the world for that matter. And it looks like central and south Florida will be under showers and thunderstorms too. So going down there there could be a few delays, but very light delays in Atlanta. Light delays possible in Charlotte and no major problems, at least as far as the weather is concerned, for the New York area airports Philly up to New York, laguardia, jfk and Newark. However, as you head up toward the Boston area, a little bit of cloud cover and a little upper-level disturbance may bring in some showers there. So some slight delays expected in the Boston area during the afternoon hours today.
Speaker 0:Also looking at some scattered showers across Wisconsin, but probably not so at Midway or O'Hare. We're looking at a possibility in the Chicago area. No major weather delays there. Some light weather delays in Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth. It looks like just hot weather and dry conditions will continue there for the next several days. Some locally severe conditions over western portions of North Dakota and eastern Montana and smoky conditions also across the northern tier of states as well. And looking at smoky weather in southern and central Florida excuse me, southern and central California because of wildfires there. Generally no problems weather-wise, with just smoky and hazy in San Diego, los Angeles, san Francisco is looking generally fair and dry, generally fair in Portland and Seattle as well. I'm your host, steve Pilatiri, and I am the weatherman. Hope you have a great day today. Talk to you first thing on Friday. See you then.
