Lake-Effect Snow, Travel Delays, And A Sky Show

Stephen Pellettiere
SPEAKER_00:

Hi, this is Video Roger Steve Pellethier, and I am the Weatherman. Thanks for checking in to the Weathermanpod.com on your Wednesday. It's midweekend. It's the twelfth day of the month of November, quickly approaching mid month. Looks like our weather situation continues. Very chilly. Readings. My goodness, across central and northern New York State and in Vermont, there was quite a bit of snowfall. Lake Placid across through Plattsburgh over to North and South Hero, the Champlain Islands in the center of Lake Champlain, and also down in Burlington, between five and ten inches of snow, actually eight inches in uh South Hero and also in Burlington. And also up in Stowe, they had several inches of snow. So this skiing season probably starting to gear up now. Looking for the possibility of more snow just east of Lake Erie and north of the Finger Lakes and up into the western Adirondacks during the daytime today as well. Also, some heavy lake effect snow showers or squalls now occurring across Lake Huron and eastern shores of Lake Superior, northern shores of Lake Michigan. And it looks like that will continue to cause light snow and snow showers all across northern Pennsylvania, western, and northern New York State during the daytime today. Yes, we went over the uh sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald. The anniversary was a 50-year anniversary on Monday. And it was this type of weather. You had the strong northwesterly winds causing these storms that develop over the eastern portion of the Great Lakes, and uh of course resulted in uh disaster there. But uh now, of course, nowadays we have excellent weather information so that uh they can be warned and uh avoid such circumstances. Uh elsewhere across the nation, we were looking at uh generally dry weather in New York City, but just blustering. Even New York City had some snow showers during the daytime yesterday. Um I saw up one period of time in central and northern Manhattan where the winds were howling out of the west-northwest, and it was about a visibility of maybe two miles in some snow showers and squalls that went through the city. Well, a lot of it all across central and northern New Jersey and in Pennsylvania, but during the daytime today, a little bit more partly sunny, a little bit drier. Still gusty winds during the afternoon, though, with chilly temperatures in the forties to near 50 degrees. Seems like it went right from uh mid-autumn all the way into early winter. And of course, the days are getting shorter each and every day. Dry weather down in Atlanta, dry weather in Miami. It looks like nice weather coming our way during the daytime tomorrow as well, but temperatures still chilly, 40s to lower 50s, 40s to lower 50s on Friday and Saturday. Probably the next chance for some rainfall that'll be arriving sometime Saturday night and Sunday this upcoming weekend. Again, if you're traveling today, of course, the shutdown is going to gradually end during the next 24 to 48 hours. It's going to be really tough to really get back into gear. Uh so uh we'll probably be back in full strength by the weekend or early next week. But weather-wise, it is going to cause delays in the New York area because of the strong westerly winds and problems with runways and scheduling. Uh, same situation up in the Boston area. Philadelphia always has a good time in this type of weather situation. Get that one big runway right along the Delaware River and never have uh major problems as far as inbound or outbound there. Uh Baltimore and Washington also looking pretty good weather-wise. Atlanta and Central and South Florida. Good weather expected there. Houston to Dallas, Chicago, all dry weather. West Coast, looks like rain moving into San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle, but dry weather and San Diego and LA, they may get some showers over the next 24 hours. I'm in your Roger, Steve Pelletier, and I am the weatherman. One thing we did have an Aurora Borealis last night, and is also a possibility for tonight. Uh, folks all across the northern tier, northern uh, let's say Oregon, north up to uh Washington, across and through Idaho, Montana, uh, northern Wyoming, the Dakotas, Minnesota, the Great Lakes, and even into northern Pennsylvania and New York State and New England. You have a good possibility of seeing those northern lights again tonight, probably sometime between about 8 p.m. and midnight. I'm India Major, Steve Pelletier, and I am the Weatherman. Hope you have a great day today. Talk to your first thing tomorrow. See you then.
