Mid-Atlantic Chill With Weekend Rain On Deck

Stephen Pellettiere
SPEAKER_00:

Hi, this is Meteorologist Steve Pelletier, and I am the Weatherman. Thanks for checking into the WeathermanPomb.com on your Thursdays. It's the 13th day of November. Quickly approaching halfway through the month. Can't believe it in Thanksgiving coming up very quickly. We are looking at uh still that gusty west-northwesterly fall across the mid-Atlantic. From the Carolinas north through the Virginias and into New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and uh much out central and southern New England. You are looking at generally fair skies, including New York City and Long Island. And our weather situation will show highs today of around 50. Nighttime blows down to 30 to 35. Generally fair, it's that west wind continues. Some of the gust up to 30 miles per hour at times. And then for tomorrow on Friday, also about the same. We'll start off with some colder readings. Now, again, keep in mind the sun rises in the uh east-southeast and sets in the west-southwest. And it takes a shorter period of uh time to go across our skies instead of going directly over ahead. It's sort of like stays closer to the horizon. That's indirect sunshine, so you have a little bit of cloud cover there. It really cuts down on the amount of warmth that you get for this town of year. That's why November and December tends to be on the dark side and cold. Looks like uh our start of meteorological winter, believe it or not. Is the first day of December, and that's just about a little bit over two weeks away. So uh the chilly conditions continue on to Friday. Saturday's not looking too bad. Starts off with some sun, gives way to increasing clouds in the area, low pressure. Currently over the west coast, will be sending some moisture eastward. And that could bring uh the possibility of some rain Saturday night into early Sunday, then a little bit of a clearing trend before the next sharp cold front arrives early next week. Now, if you're traveling by air today, it looks like our weather is gonna be fair in Atlanta and Charlotte and Central and South Florida, no problems there. Weatherwise in Houston and Dallas, Fort Worth, it's looking good. Also, dry conditions in Chicago, Minneapolis, St. Paul. It's the West Coast. Looks like some rain moving into LA in San Francisco. It's gonna be a rainy day today. Also, quite a bit of rain in Portland and Seattle. Some pretty heavy downpours are expected there. And uh it looks like that rain will continue through a good balance of this afternoon and tonight, and then uh hopefully we'll get a little bit of a break tomorrow with high pressure building in from the North Pacific. But in the meantime, most places are looking weather-wise pretty good, of course, in the New York area. We do have those gusty west winds. The runways sometimes aren't configured for those properly. That means go by the book, and looks like it takes a little bit longer to get those inbounds and outbounds. So look for about an hour or two delays in the New York area because of those strong winds. No major problems as far as the weather is concerned, except for the possibility of more snow in Buffalo, Rochester, Messina, New York, and also up in Burlington and northern portions of Vermont and New Hampshire. Could be some snow up there and some pretty hefty amounts in some of the higher elevations later on today and tonight. I've been your Major, Steve Pelletier, and I am the Weatherman. Hope you have a great day today. Talk to you first thing tomorrow. See you then.
