Planes Prefer Calm; The Atmosphere Didn’t Get The Memo

Hi, this is Biddy Ball just eat fellow Tier and I'm the Weatherman. Thanks for checking into the WeathermanPond.com on your Sunday. It's the 16th day of the month of November, 2025, and we've got winds starting to kick up across the Northeast. Of course, that's going to cause some delays in arrivals and departures in around a New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore area because of those strong gusty winds. Similar situation up around the Boston area. But look for a gradual clearing trend as the day wears on. We'll get into mostly sunny skies, but wind advisories are in effect for many places across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast because of those west winds at 15 to 20 that could gust up to 45 miles per hour. Our temperature is starting up in the mid-50s, but falling sharply later this afternoon. And then tonight mostly cloudy down to about 30 to 35. Maybe a few snow showers across the northwestern section of Pennsylvania, central and western New York State, where those winds coming across the Great Lakes again. Then mostly sunny on Monday. Monday's highs up to 47. Mostly clear at night down near 30. Tuesday sunshine in the middle to upper 40s near 50. There could be a little rain on Tuesday night, but it looks like a clearing trend. Then sunshine near 50 on Wednesday. Thursday also partly sunny 52. Next chance of some rain, probably either Thursday night or Friday of this week. Now, if you're traveling by air today, well, there's always going to be delays because of either equipment, like the aircraft uh needs maintenance or something goes wrong, or because of across the slowdown, because of the lack of enough controllers in the New York and Northeast system, for that matter, across the whole nation. But as far as the weather is concerned, when the weather causes a problem, along with those other things, you really have some significant delays and also some problems. So we're looking at areas of snow showers across from uh just around Erie, Pennsylvania, up through the Buffalo area. Could be some heavy snows in those places. So traveling into there and Toronto could be some extensive delays, also extensive delays up in Albany and Syracuse and further north up in Messina. Uh less of delays because of the weather up because of snow up in around the Boston area, but just basically because of clouds and some rain. But those strong, gusty northwest winds are going to cause quite a bit of delays at Norwich, probably one to two hour delays because of winds and the runways that they use. They have at Norwich the parallel system of 422 is a right and left. And those are the ones that they use most of the time. But when those winds start to kick up out of the west and northwest, they like to go up to the northwest runway. That's 1129. And sometimes uh the winds uh will cause uh very strong uh low-level turbulence. And that, of course, just uh makes everything even that much more delays and precarious for a lot of the pilots and for those flying in and out of the Newark area. Uh JFK, lots of runways there, so they really have a good way of taking care of all that problems, but they also have a good uh west-northwest uh runway there. And at LaGuardia, of course, they have the two runways, and with that situation, you usually get a pattern of taking off on one landing on the other. So things really move along. At Newark, though, they usually have a lot of problems. Uh down at Philadelphia, one runway, the main use there. I'm gonna have strong northwesterly winds, so some delays into there, but nothing major. Baltimore, D.C., as you get further south, it's not gonna be as bad, but those strong winds across the Great Lakes and across New York State are going to cause quite a bit of havoc. Maybe some lake effects snows once again in those places, as mentioned. Dry weather down in Atlanta, but the front will be moving through. Charlotte also having a north flow at a clearing trend. Clearing in Chicago, but cold up in Minneapolis, St. Paul, West Coast, still raining, central Southern California from San Diego to LA, all the way up to San Francisco and even up to Seattle and Portland. And some uh heavy downpours there could cause some flash flooding all along the West Coast. Uh, that problem will most likely linger into Sunday night. So it's causing some delays into those places. Normally no big delays into LA and San Francisco because uh, well, the weather's usually pretty good except for San Francisco. They can get up and down, but well, quite a bit uh used to that type of weather pattern there. Similar situation up in Seattle and Portland, but uh down in LA and San Diego, and when you have some of these big storms going through, it could cause some extensive delays. Central South Florida also looking good. Houston and Dallas, no problems there. I'm Idomologist, Steve Pelletier, and I am the weatherman. Hope you have a great day today. Talk to you first thing tomorrow. See you then.
