Winter Storm Warning: New York To New England Braces For Heavy Snow And Travel Disruptions
Hi, this has been your Steve Pathetierian. I am the Weatherman. Thanks for checking into the WeathermanPond.com on your Friday. It's the 26th day of the month of December, 2025, and we have winter storm warnings in effect for many places in the Northeast, including central northern New Jersey, New York, Long Island, southeastern New York, northeastern Pennsylvania, and western Connecticut. Also central and northern portions of New York State will be under the idea of that possibility of a winter storm with the possibility of up to 10 inches of snow in a central Hudson Valley of New York. Also looking at some heavy amounts of snow into western Connecticut and western, southwestern Massachusetts. But most importantly, looks like the center of this storm probably somewhere just north of New York City in southeastern Connecticut. So and looks like that possibility will be mainly in the afternoon, evening, and overnight hours tonight. So an increase in clouds due for the daytime. Good portion of the day will be dry, but looks like that snow will be developing anytime after 2, 3 p.m. today into this evening. Could be heavy at times at night. Hot jumpatures for today will range between 27 and 32. For tonight, snow could be mixed with some sleet, especially around central and south Jersey, along the Jersey coast, uh south of the uh central ocean county, all the way down to Cape May. Does look dry across Del Marva as the storm will stay north of there, so D.C., Baltimore, down to Richmond, also looking basically dry. But Philadelphia does have the possibility of maybe an coating to an inch of uh snow over the sleet and freezing rain and then ultimately ending early on Sunday. So that'll be over southeastern Pennsylvania. Looks like it'll be later there, but the heaviest amounts probably sometime uh around the overnight tonight, and early on Saturday, and could be up to as much as eight inches or even more if the storm really winds up. It's moving down out of the northwest, out of the northern Great Lakes. Kind of odd for this type of situation. Most of the time we have East Coast storms this time of year will be coming up along the coast. This time out of the northwest is a continuation of that atmospheric river that's running from Hawaii across to the Pacific Northwest, uh, causing the rainy weather that we had yesterday along the west coast, and then it dries out somewhat coming across the Great Lakes and then reintensifies as it gets close to the eastern seaboard, which is going to be happening later today and tonight. So again, dress for temperatures today near 25 to 30. Snow expected in the mid to late afternoon hours and tonight. And uh as mentions there'll be a mix to the south, and it's basically just cloud cover across the mid-Atlantic states. And uh for the overnight snow could be heavy at times, tough traveling. So don't expect to do any traveling across the Northeast, say up the New York through way or out towards Rochester or Buffalo. That's where the snow will be the heaviest uh during the overnight hours tonight and early tomorrow. On Saturday, it looks like it all ends. We'll have mostly cloudy skies, a highs will range between 32 and then Sunday. Another storm arriving could give us a better chance of some an icy mix to start, but then over to rainy weather for Sunday night and Monday. Going to be really making a mess for early next week. If you're traveling by air, expecting to travel by air today, there are going to be problems across the Northeast, so expect cancellations in the New York area for late today and this evening and overnight, and even the possibility of early morning cancellations at New York, LaGuardia, JFK, and also Newark, Teterborough, and also out on the island, Ice Lip as well. Also looking at uh some heavier uh snow across Bridgeport, so there will be some delays there. Also up to Albany and up to Rochester as well. Uh elsewhere, down around out of Philadelphia, it doesn't look that bad, but uh they will have some mixed precipitation. Best to try to get a flight out of there if you're going anywhere. There will not be any flights overnight tonight because of the snow. And then it also looks dry from D.C., Dulles, and all the way down to Richmond as well. Flying into Charlotte or Atlanta, the weather looks pretty good today. No problems weatherwise there, just some light rain showers in northern Georgia and western North Carolina. Also some scattered showers as in central and south Florida. It's been there for the last several days, but nothing major is not going to cause any major delays. Weatherwise are flying in and out of those places. Chicago's looking dry, fair and cold in Minneapolis, and Houston and Dallas also looking on a dry side. West Coast still with that rain. San Diego to LA, all the way up to San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle expect delays because of rain in and out of those areas. It does, however, look like uh they may get into some drying weather as we head into this upcoming weekend. But the big story is the winter storm warning expected for the New York City area and central and southern New England. That'll be for later today and tonight. I'm in your mouth, just Steve Pelletieria, and I am the Weatherman. Hope you have a great day today. We'll update you a little bit later on today on the Weatherman Pond. So check in sometime after about mid afternoon for the latest update on this winter storm. Hope you have a good day. Talk to you soon.
