Weather Whiplash And What It Signals For The Month Ahead
Hi, this has been your roster, Steve Pelletier, and I am the Weatherman. Thanks for checking into the WeathermanPod.com on your Tuesday. It is the 13th day of the month of January. Quickly getting close to the midmonth period and our temperatures yesterday near normal. Also, we had those uh very strong uh snow squalls that went through the area that brought into cold air on Sunday afternoon and Sunday evening. However, today we are going to have some pretty good weather, and a little bit warmer to her highs are reached into the middle to upper 40s, and plenty of sunshine is expected. Now there'll be an increase in clouds tonight. Another low pressure is going to be approaching the region, gonna give us some rain because we'll have a southwest flow before that. So some rainy weather expected to arrive during the mainly afternoon hours on Wednesday. And temperatures then will get up close to 50 degrees. So at night the rain will continue on the light side, but overnight another strong cold front will move through. And it could have some Arctic characteristics, and that may even cause some of the rain to change over to some snow, especially in interior Pennsylvania, central and northern New York State, and even in some sections of southwestern New England as well. And this will be during the morning hours on Thursday. Then we get into a clearing trend, but it turns colder, but really not that cold. I mean, yes, uh temperatures during the month of December were well below normal. Month of January so far is a little bit above. And it looks like we are turning to more of a colder weather situation for the second half of the month. And if you go across the northern hemisphere, uh there's one place out in Moscow, like they don't have enough problems there. They had three feet of snow, up to three feet of snow, and some drifts in the Moscow area of up to six to eight feet. Really an amazing situation in a multi-day storm, sort of like rivals what we had in 1888, the great blizzard of 88. Well, that was a three-day affair, and in some places it was between one and three feet of snow, and of course, drifts much, much higher. But not looking at that right now. If you're traveling across the nation today, it looks good in Atlanta and Charlotte. No problems expected in D.C., New York, LaGuardia, JFK, and even up in the Boston area is looking dry. Central and South Florida, there'll be some scattered showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon hours. And in Houston and Dallas Fort Worth, Houston may have some showers, but in the Dallas area, generally dry conditions. Chicago looks like a strong cold front moving through. Could be some snow showers, but also gusty northwest winds. Minneapolis also with some snow showers. West Coast, San Diego, LA, and San Francisco, all dry. Also dry weather finally, up in Portland and Seattle, Togoma. I'm Eddy Roger, Steve Fellow Tier, and I am the weatherman. Hope you have a great day today. We'll talk to you first thing on Wednesday. See you then.
