This is Meteorologist, Steve Pelletier, and I am the Weatherman. Thanks for checking into the Weathermanpod.com on your Thursday. It's the 26th day in the month of February 2026, a month that is coming to a close this weekend. And just uh right now I can just tell you it's gonna be about four degrees below normal, temperature-wise, for the whole month. Finally, we have a month where our precipitation is a little bit above normal. That's because of this big storm that we had uh the 22nd, 23rd. Um I think on Long Island and in New York City, they're calling it the blizzard, or I'm calling it the blizzard of 26. And the reason for that is because there were some reports of strong wind speeds, wind speeds between 40 and 60 miles per hour. Well, probably only in gust, but I'm sure there were some sustained winds up to about 25 to 30 miles per hour. Now, the temperatures were not particularly cold. Years ago, when I started doing all this, uh a blizzard was defined as something you had to have very cold temperatures below minus below 20 degrees Fahrenheit, or you had to have uh at the same time winds above 20 to 25 miles per hour, and uh visibility is real low because of snow or blowing snow. It didn't necessarily have to be snowing in order to have a blizzard, blizzard conditions. Uh now it seems like that has changed. It's now basically just strong winds and low visibility due to snow. In popular uses, that's how I kind of thought it was before I saw the actual definition when I was a youngster. But now that definition has changed to just a very big storm, along with wind and along with a very low visibility and a heavy downpours of snow that we saw during the pre-dawn hours on Monday, and then Monday from about uh somewhere between 9 a.m. and noontime in eastern portions of New Jersey, New York City, and Long Island, uh, southeastern Connecticut. Uh tremendous amount of snow just a short period of time. That's why Newark Liberty International Airport has a snow total for that storm of over 27 inches. But we actually even saw some reports of closer to 30 inches in some sections of southern Bergen County. So uh with a little bit of everything there. So very further west, less and less snow further east on Long Island. I think the minimum basically was somewhere between 15 and 30 inches of snow on uh Nassau and Suffolk counties. And that's of course with all those strong winds and of course the blowing snow and the drifting snow that resulted from that tremendous storm. Long story short, February's coming in. Colder than normal, wetter than normal, and snowier than normal. And that's how it's going to end on a sunny day on Saturday, with temperatures generally near 50. But in detail for today, we're looking at an increase in clouds. A little frown system moving through might give us a uh snow flurry or a sprinkle in some places, but temperatures for the most part are only 40 to 45. That's still a little bit below normal for this time of year. And at night it'll be clear down into the low to middle twenties. Tomorrow it also looks like sunny skies. Friday's high temperatures will range, 40 to 45. On Saturday, last day of the month, it gets up to near 50. And we open up March. Is it coming in like a line? Well, not necessarily. That's quiet lines. It's going to be cloudy, and temperatures are ranging between 40 and 45. So it looks like maybe some storms either Monday night or Tuesday, but we'll have more on that on tomorrow's report. In the meantime, if you are flying today, any more particularly if you're flying an airliner today, we do see an area of low pressure to our south. That's causing some rain in Charlotte. Rain also in Atlanta, so there could be a little bit of delays into there. Nothing major. These are not major or heavy low pressure systems, but just enough to cause ceilings and visibilities to be down. Also looking at fair weather in Florida, central and south Florida, no problems there. A few light showers, but that should be clearing up in Houston and Dallas Fort Worth up in Chicago. It's a stationary front row around there. There'll be a lot of cloud cover, but the weather's not a problem there. So you should have no problem getting in and out of the Chicago area today, or Minneapolis, St. Paul, also dry. Dry up in Boston, West Coast, LA, San Francisco, all looking pretty good. Portland just clouds, Seattle. Looks like it's going to rain again. What do you know? In the meantime, hope you have a good day today. We'll talk to your first thing on Friday morning and take a look at the weekend and the possibility of that storm next week. I've been your mind, Steve Pellet here, and I am the Weatherman. Hope you have a great day today. Talk to your first thing tomorrow. See you then.
