Snow and rain, back to colder weather

Spring warmth can vanish fast, and we prove it with a real-time look at a wild temperature jump that briefly made the region feel like July. We break down how a southwest wind can spike readings near 80 and why a thermometer’s location matters, especially when it sits near a major roadway with constant traffic and extra heat. If you follow New Jersey weather, NYC weather, Long Island forecasts, or eastern Pennsylvania conditions, this is a practical reminder that “the number” depends on exposure, wind, and microclimates.
From there, we get into the Thursday forecast: rain moving in, temperatures dropping as the day goes on, and the possibility of wet snow mixing in later in the day or early evening as colder air arrives. We talk timing, what that means for accumulation risk, and why areas farther southwest like parts of the Shenandoah into Maryland and southwestern Pennsylvania can have a better shot at seeing accumulating snow while the metro mainly deals with a chilly, damp changeover.
We also run through the near-term outlook with a cooler but calmer Friday, a mostly sunny Saturday that could still see a quick early frontal pass, and another round of rain later Sunday into Monday before a sharper cold push midweek. If you’re traveling by air, we flag occasional showers and possible mixed precipitation aloft near the New York area that can slow operations, with potential delays at Newark, LaGuardia, and JFK, plus a fast check of conditions from Boston to DC and out to the West Coast. Quick Intro And Date
SPEAKER_00Hi, this has been your browser Steve Pelletier, and I am the Weatherman. Thanks for checking into the Weathermanpod.com on your Thursday. It's the twelfth day of the month of March 2026. And another warm run on Wednesday. Temperatures at Norwick International were holding in the 60s all the way up until about maybe 145 in the afternoon on Wednesday. It's about 68 degrees at 145. The winds were out of the east at 7 miles per hour. Magically, when one hour, the temperature climbed all the way up to 80. That's because the winds came out of the southwest at around 15 to 20 miles per hour. And the uh indicator, the thermometer indicator at Norwich is located on the east side of the field, generally parallel to the New Jersey Turnpike. There's five lanes of roadway, of uh tons and tons of traffic on a regular basis. And anytime you get a southwest wind, it comes right over that roadway, hits that temperature, and you see the temperatures up an extra degree or two from uh area readings. And we saw that Central Park got up to about 79 other readings, also close to the upper 70s and lower 80s, all across central and northern New Jersey, Eastern PA, New York City, and Long Island were a little bit cooler because of that sea breeze. And once the southwest wind hits, the North Shore was on the milder side there. Well, the weather situation for your Thursday, calling for some rain. It may even be mixed with some wet snow, especially in the latter portion of the day or early evening as the temperatures get colder. Earlier portion of the day, the temperatures will be at the warmest, and then dropping back as the day wears on. Little of any snow accumulation is expected, but there could be some accumulating snows across the Shenandoah of Virginia, extending all the way up into Maryland and southwestern Pennsylvania. It all depends on the timing of this system. That'll be on Thursdays. Temperatures fall from the 50s all the way down to near 40 by 4 p.m. and into the 30s down to about 29 for Thursday night early Friday. Friday's looking partly sunny, 43 to 48, and Saturday's looking sunny. Highs of rains into the upper 40s and near 50. Now it could be a little frontal system moving through early in the day on Saturday. That could include a little bit of rain and snow at all. Depends on uh timing and positioning. And we'll have more to say on that as we get into Thursday and Friday's report. However, it does look like uh we will have some rainy weather moving in by later Sunday and Monday of next week. Then a return to some sharply colder weather towards the middle of next week as well. If you're traveling by air today, it looks like the New York area will have some occasional showers and even the possibility of a little bit of mixed precipitation aloft. That usually slows things down. And uh there may be uh one or two hour delays. Norc, also LaGuardia JFK. Up in the Boston area, looking at rain, rain, and even the possibility of some uh mixed precipitation down in Baltimore and DC as it gets colder there. Uh the rain will be ending in Charlotte. Looks like dry weather in Atlanta. And we are looking at uh fair skies at Houston and Dallas Fort Worth. Chicago's looking good. Minneapolis, St. Paul will have snow, but out on the West Coast, it looks dry for San Diego, LA, and San Francisco, but rainy weather as typical up in Portland and Seattle, Tacoma. I've been your mouth, Justine Pelletier and I am the Weatherman. Hope you have a great day today. Talk to your first thing on Friday. See you then.
