Welcome And Vernal Equinox Timing
SPEAKER_00Hi, this is Meteorology Steve Pelletier, and I am the weatherman. Hope you have a great first day of springtime on this Friday, 20th day of the month of March. The vernal equinox officially beginning at 10 46 a.m. Eastern Standard Time, Eastern Daylight time, I should say. And we're looking at uh some pretty decent weather across the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast. Our weather forecast for today calling for sunshine, but there'll be an increase in clouds and are high temperatures generally in the upper 50s and lower 60s. A fast-moving frontal system moves through. Not really a cold front, just basically represents a change in air masses, and it's going to bring us the possibility of some showers, maybe a tenth to a quarter of an inch of rain overnight, nighttime low temperatures, generally averaging back to about 40 to 45. Now we get into sunshine from DC all the way up to the New York area and even Boston as well. And that'll give us a good day. Highs will reach to nearest 60 to the north to about 65 south and west, and looking at plenty of clouds moving in at night in the 40s, but a sunny day for Sunday. Sunday's high temperatures are also low to middle 60s, but there could be some rain on Sunday night and early Monday from the Virginias all the way up into southern New England. In the meantime, though, looking at a pretty good day for this first day of springtime 2026, we made it after this very brutal winter. If you're traveling by air today, weather-wise, the lack of funding at the Department of Homeland Security is also affecting the TSA. So at a lot of major airports, there's lots of delays. Give yourself extra time to get there. That's going to take a while. And uh getting through, especially in the New York area airports where so many passengers go through. Norwich, LaGuardia, JFK, Philadelphia, Baltimore, DC, all going to have uh some delays because of that. But the weather's not going to be much of a problem. There is some rain moving in later in the day and at night, but mostly VFR conditions for the New York and Philadelphia area. Up in Boston, also dry. The weather will be rainy up in the Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse area, and even the possibility of some snow up in central and northern New England. But elsewhere across the nation, except for the Pacific Northwest, when it always seems like it's raining, the weather's going to be pretty good. Looking at fair weather in Charlotte, also in Atlanta, dry, dry in central and south Florida. Houston and Dallas, Fort Worth, looking pretty good. In Chicago, just a little bit of clouds, but it's going to be a sunny day. Minneapolis, St. Paul, also fair skies. Fair in San Diego, LA, San Francisco, but rainy weather, as mentioned in Portland and Seattle, Tacoma today. I'm Eddie Maller, Steve Pellettieri, and I am the weatherman. Have a wonderful springtime or start of springtime. I'll talk to you first thing on Saturday. See you then.
