Welcome And The June Setup
Hi, this is meteorologist Steve Feldhier. What is so rare as a day in June? Boy, the first and second of this month so far. Beautiful weather.
Sunshine Today Near 90 Tomorrow
Going into the third day of the month on your Wednesday, we've got great weather, highs in the middle eighties, plenty of sunshine, and a night north wind, basically on the north side, just about five miles per hour. Of course, along the shore, it's always a north-northeast flow that's strong, then shifting to a south wind as we head towards tomorrow, and that'll keep things a little bit cooler. And uh that looks like mostly clear skies for tonight. After a sunny day in the mid-80s today, it'll be down to about 60 tonight, and tomorrow back up to near 90 with sunshine. Again, cooler along the shore, but clear skies at night 64. Mostly sunny on Friday, it'll reach the middle 90s. At warmest temperatures along coastal areas and at the beaches, probably in the later morning hours. During the afternoon, that sea breeze kicks in. Temperatures drop back into about the 70s in most places. That'll be on Friday and Saturday. But inland temperatures mid-90s on Saturday.
Weekend Front Brings Storm Chances
Some frontal systems moving through the area, becoming stationary pretty close to our south. We'll give us some showers and thunderstorms on Sunday and Monday, and even a chance of showers on Tuesday. Not generally bad weather all the time, but it will start cooling back on Sunday with highs in the 80s. But by Monday and Tuesday, still with a chance of showers. Highs generally in the 70s, which is pretty close to normal for this time of the year, maybe a little
Flight Weather For Major US Hubs
bit below. Now, if you're traveling by air today, big area high pressure across the Northeast, actually centered from the Ohio Valley all the way down to the Carolinas, Virginia, down to uh Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, the uh Tennessee Valley as well. And that means some pretty good weather. It's gonna last right over the next several days and progressively hotter, almost a Bermuda high effect. The high pressure cell goes offshore. The southwesterly flow develops aloft, brings in some warmer weather. That cools things down along the shore because of a sea breeze during the each afternoon and evening. But then at night, that's where your temperatures may even go up a few degrees before dropping back during the overnight because of diurnal cooling from the nighttime. The ever-growing shorter nighttime as we get closer and closer to the first day of summer. But it is astronomical summer at this point, usually begins on the first day of June, usually ends on the first day of September, and the sun is rising higher and setting later. Early, it is uh rising earlier and setting later each and every day. So get more and more sunshine, more and more energy to warm things up, and we're gonna start feeling it into the month of July and August. But in the meantime, we've got some pretty good weather. Uh, Atlanta, no problems. Charlotte, pretty good. Some scattered showers and thunderstorms, central and south Florida. Looks good in New York and Boston, looks good in Chicago and Minneapolis, St. Paul. Maybe some rain tonight, but I think daytime should be dry and no major problems weather-wise going into there. Scattered thunderstorms across the Gulf Coast, Louisiana, New Orleans, all the way up to Houston and Dallas, Fort Worth, maybe some afternoon thunderstorms. In the West Coast, looking dry weather, still in Los Angeles, San Francisco, maybe some rain moving in to the Pacific Northwest by later today and tonight. So pretty good weather for flying into the major hub, the busiest airport in the world, Atlanta Hartsfield. Just look like good weather for today. Charlotte looking pretty good, as does New York, LaGuardia, Newark, and JFK.
