Heat Builds With Spotty Storms

And we're looking at another hot one across the mid-Atlantic and northeast, mostly sunny skies, highs of 90 to 95. There will be a scattered chance of a shower or a thunder shower, probably at 60%, but amounts of rainfall, except for any downpours that you might underneath a thunder cell, you might look at maybe a tenth of an inch of much needed rainfall. But unfortunately, it's going to be dry. So it looks like back to sunshine on Sunday. Highs of rains in the 80s generally could touch 90 degrees in some of the warmer spots around the northeast. Looks like mostly clear skies at night, back to 60 to 65. Sunday night early Monday. Monday sunshine near 80. Tuesday in the mid-80s, back into the lower 90s for Wednesday and Thursday of this week, also uh into the lower 90s, with the possibility of some thunderstorms, maybe by Thursday and Friday of this week.

Yearlong Rain Deficit And Drought

In the meantime, though, the dry weather flow that's been going on for about a year now, showing somewhere between, let's say, between 14 and 18 inches of rainfall below normal for a whole 12-month period. And that's significant. And as we go into the summer months, we are in a moderate drought at this point. And it looks like the possibility of that dry condition will continue through the month of June

Travel Weather And Delay Risks

as well. If you're traveling by air today, it looks like good weather down in Atlanta and also in central South Florida. Charlotte also no problems weather-wise. I think for the most part, in the New York area, it will be okay weather-wise until about the middle evening hours. But we could have some delays because of locally severe thunderstorms, probably off to the west and off to the north. But that chance does exist, at least for the evening hours on Saturday. Boston also on the dry side with some evening or overnight scattered showers and thunderstorms. Chicago, a few light rain showers, still some showers at Houston and Dallas. Looks like that area has been having a lot of thunderstorm and rain activity last several days. LA's looking dry. San Francisco also dry, but it looks like some rain moving into Portland and Seattle today. But no major delays as far as the weather is concerned up in the Pacific Northwest, expected for later today or tonight. I'm Betty Bogger, Steve Pelletier, and I am the weatherman. We have a great day today. Talk to you first thing on Sunday. See you then.
