Welcome And Date Check
SPEAKER_00Hi, this is video Steve Pelletier, and I am the Weatherman. Thanks for checking in to the WeathermanPod.com on your Friday, third day of the month of July, 2020. Stinks and boy, this month.
Extreme Heat Warning And Temps
SPEAKER_00Really has started off on the hot side. And looks like the uh extreme heat warning will continue today and on Saturday.
Rainfall Models For Sun To Tue
SPEAKER_00Interesting thing, but we see on some of the models uh some hefty amounts of rain for Sunday night and Monday night, even into Tuesday. In some places, uh, one of the models is giving us uh over three inches of rain during that period of time. Uh the U.S. model, what we call the GFS, is just looking for maybe about an inch of rainfall during that period of time. But it is much needed rain, and we hope that it does, in fact, occur. We don't need extensive or heavy rain or flooding rains, but uh anything would help as uh this dry weather continues and the extreme heat warning continues today.
Today And July Fourth Storm Risk
SPEAKER_00Our high temperatures once again will get up to around 100 to 105. Heat index values, a combination of sunshine, humidity, and temperature 107, west winds at 10 to 15. There is a chance of a shower thunderstorm this evening. Then overnight, nighttime low temperatures down to only 75 to 80. Fourth of July, Saturday, looking for a mostly sunny and hot day, upper 90s to near 100. Heat index values to 105, and a chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms could hamper the holiday fireworks during the evening hours, especially later afternoon and evening, the probability of thunderstorms increases to about 30 to 40 percent. There could be some isolated severe storms as well. Then, as mentioned on Sunday, although starting out partial sunshine, highs will only reach 88 degrees, but it looks like some rainy weather for Sunday night, Monday, and on Tuesday.
Air Travel Impacts From Heat
SPEAKER_00After traveling by air today, keep in mind, not looking at any severe weather across the Northeast, but the heat. Heat is a big problem during the midday and afternoon hours for some aircraft, especially the heavier ones and even the uh 321 NEO, which has a short stubby wing, but they're carrying more people, so and they're more wheat, and that means it needs uh more and more runway to get uh airborne. And uh when you have thin air and very hot weather like this, it does cause some extensive delays and some long period of rollouts. But as the day wears on, we are going to have uh generally fair conditions for the most part across Norwick, New York, LaGuardia, JFK, Boston, down to Philly, Washington, all with very hot weather, temperatures and the hundreds during the afternoon hours. Looks like dry weather in Charlotte and Atlanta, too, scattered late-day thunderstorms in central South Florida. Looks like some rainy weather moving into Chicago. Could be delays getting into Midway or Hare. And even up in Madison, Wisconsin, and the Milwaukee, there is the possibility of some locally heavy thunderstorms, some rainy weather expected in Minneapolis, St. Paul, some severe weather in western sections of North and South Dakota. Uh, Houston and Dallas are looking dry, dry weather, but very warm. Still, LA, San Francisco, all the way up to uh Seattle, Tacoma, where there will be some late day and evening showers. Heat Safety Tips And Sign Off
SPEAKER_00and I am the weatherman. Keep cool today. Make sure you avoid getting out and doing any strenuous work during the afternoon hours. Drink plenty of water, light fitting, light colored clothing, light material, light and loose fitting, that's always good. Uh watch out for the signs of heat stroke, which are elevated temperatures, headaches, and just a whole range of very bad things. You know, if you're in the heat and you're doing something you shouldn't be doing, like might be some gardening or even some light work, and you start feeling those uh very bad conditions in your body, do not discount that type of situation. I'm Steve Pelletier, and I'm the weatherman. Hope you have a great day today. Talk to you first thing tomorrow. See you there.
