Quick Intro And Today’s Date

National Heat And Flood Threats

SPEAKER_00

And it looks like uh the heat is going to continue to move back into the northeast for a couple of days. Now, record-setting heat is expected over the next several days, mostly across the central portion of the nation, though Rockies also over the west coast and over the south. It's a different situation. Heat, humidity, and also torrential rains. So that's going to be causing heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorms. And most of those threats will be in the Ohio and Tennessee valleys, the Appalachians, and all places south along the Gulf Coast. And it'll be shifting to the coastal sections of Louisiana and Texas, Alabama and Mississippi, and even the western panhandle of Florida. So lots of rainfall down there.

Why The Northeast Stays Cooler

SPEAKER_00

In the northeast, we're basically out of a northwesterly flow. It's been that way since the wintertime. It breaks down every so often when you get into that southwest flow. And we'll see more of that in August. But the northwesterly flow basically protects us from the extreme heat. But we are going to get into some heat midweek, could touch 100 on Wednesday.

Day By Day Local Forecast

SPEAKER_00

So here's the forecast. Sunny skies for your Tuesday. Our temperature is back into the 90s today, 90 to 95. For tonight, mostly clear only. Overnight lows of about 70 to 75. Sunshine and hot tomorrow, all the way up to 100. The heat index value is up to about 105. It's a west wind at 5 to 10, gusting to 20. So a little bit of a breeze there. There is a slight chance of a shower of thunderstorm. Little weather front moving through. That northwesterly flow bringing down a front with high pressure moving in for Thursday. Nighttime low 73. Thursday, sunshine still up to near 90. Low at night, near 70, near 90 on Friday. Back up into the 80s to near 90 degrees with a chance of showers and thunderstorms for Saturday and Sunday of this weekend.

Air Travel Weather And Delays

SPEAKER_00

Traveling by air today, no problems. Weather wise into the Philadelphia, New York, Boston area. DC also looking pretty good, as does Richmond and Raleigh. But there is still going to be some light rain showers across northern Georgia. So Atlanta will have some scattered showers. Generally dry across Central and South Florida, but the rains will be moving in to portions of Louisiana, Gulf Coast of Texas, even up to Dallas-Fort Worth, so there could be some delays into Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth. Fair weather in Chicago, no problems there, just hot. And also looking at dry conditions in Minneapolis, St. Paul. The rain area is going to be across the Rockies, west in portions of Colorado, into much of central and eastern Nevada, and all the way up to Idaho and Montana. West Coast drive from LA to San Francisco, all the way up to Seattle. So no problems. Weatherwatch, flying in and out of those places on the West Coast
