Yesterday’s Mid-Atlantic Downpours
SPEAKER_00of July. Boy, did we have some rain yesterday. Many places across the Mid-Atlantic, including eastern Pennsylvania, Maryland, northern sections of Virginia, the DC area, northward, all the way up into New Jersey and southern New York, Long Island, and New York. Basically, uh, between one and three inches of rainfall in some of those places. Not all places had that much rain, but there was quite a heavy downpour in a latter afternoon and early
Why Storms Linger Today
SPEAKER_00evening. But it looks like we're going to get into a little bit less of a rainy pattern for the next several days. It's going to be a slow, gradual process. Reason for that, upper level low pressure system swinging across the area, almost becoming stationary just offshore. And when that happens, you get extra cloud cover. You get afternoon thunderstorms. And with all this moisture on the ground, uh the late July sun will heat up the ground. The ground will heat that water up, it'll evaporate, go back into the atmosphere as water vapor, and then rise as the temperatures go up. And then development of clouds, cumulonimbus clouds, means more thunderstorm activity is expected as we head through this Wednesday.
Today’s Forecast And Flood Watches
SPEAKER_00So the forecast in detail calling for a mixture of clouds, maybe a few sunny times, but also the chance of showers and thunderstorms, not as heavy as yesterday, but they will be with us. And there could be some locally heavy downpours with those. The flood watches are in effect in many communities across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast throughout the daytime today. And for tonight, still that chance of a shower or a thunder shower. Then overnight temperatures generally back down into the mid-60s after highest daytime 75 to 80
Friday Clearing Trend And Weekend Risk
SPEAKER_00degrees today. And it looks like high pressure builds in as we head towards later on Friday. We'll look for a clearing trend becoming partly sunny, but there's still that chance of an isolated afternoon weight of scattered thunderstorm. That's something that we'll be watching for Friday, even into the early portion of the weekend. So upper level low pressure systems, when you're in your vicinity, they tend to stick around
Travel And National Weather Snapshot
SPEAKER_00quite a while. Traveling by air today, some minor delays expected in the New York, LaGuardia, JFK area, especially during the afternoon with the maximum time of thunderstorms. Also, IFR weather up in the Boston Logan area, and that will continue throughout the daytime today into this evening. A drying trend down in Philadelphia, DC, and Richmond. Charlotte's going to be dry. Atlanta also showing sunshine. Dry conditions in Chicago, some rain across Minneapolis, St. Paul. Dry and warm. Houston and Dallas, West Coast continues their dry trend for the next several days. I've been your bodger, Steve Fellow Thierry, and
