Flood Watch Setup For The Region

And we have a floodwatch in defect for much of the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast with an approaching frontal system. A floodwatch in effect from about noontime right up until 4 a.m. on Friday.

Storm Timing And Main Hazards

Now it does look like an increase in clouds as the day wears on. There could be some showers, generally lighter during the morning and in the early afternoon. Your heaviest thunderstorms, most likely between the hours of 4 and 8 p.m. And during that time, we can have some locally heavy downpours. Strong goes, he wins in some heavy downpours with dangerous lightning. And that, of course, will account for the flood watch. That's going to be in effect for the afternoon and evening hours. Showers and thunderstorms will gradually taper off during the overnight Thursday

Temperatures And Weekend Sunshine

into Friday. After daytime highs dawn Thursday, up to about 80 to 85. Nighttime lows back into the mid-60s. It looks like better weather for Friday, becoming mostly sunny. Highs will range between 80 and 85. Sunshine, Saturday, 82. Actually, Sunday, Monday, and the first day of September on Tuesday. We're looking at a good amount of sunshine, daytime, clear weather at night, high temperatures generally ranging in the lower 80s for the weekend, but in the mid to upper eighties as we head towards the middle of next week.

Air Travel Delays Across Major Hubs

Traveling by air today, we do expect some locally heavy thunderstorms in eastern Pennsylvania and in New Jersey, southeastern New York, and that's going to cause some delays in the later afternoon and evening hours, inbound and outbound, because of the possibility of some locally severe storms. But that gradually will improve as we head towards Friday. But that problem does look like it will exist from Boston right up to the New York area, North LaGuardia, JFK, and also down Philly, Baltimore, and D.C. and Dallas. Looks like some scattered showers in Charlotte and also in Atlanta, so some pretty tough delays there. Central and South Florida, under showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon hours. And it looks like still some rain in Dallas and also in the Houston area. Scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms. Dry in Chicago and Minneapolis. That good weather is moving towards the east. And even the possibility of some showers in coastal sections of California, just north of LA, all the way up to San Francisco, and also some showers moving into the Pacific
